Emma Goldman Clinic
Offers Childbirth Classes
Starting Saturday,
February 26th, Monica Brasile will be teaching BirthWorks
childbirth education classes at the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City.
BirthWorks is a six-week, comprehensive course, taking place Saturday
mornings from 10a.m. until noon at the Emma Goldman Clinic, located at
227 N. Dubuque St. The cost per couple is $120.
Monica Brasile is a
Certified Childbirth Educator and Doula. She has been teaching prenatal
classes and attending births in Omaha, Nebraska since 1996. The classes
she offers typically consist of six weeks of comprehensive information
on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. They also incorporate
birth videos, guest speakers, and a variety of class activities. Rather
than promoting a particular style of childbirth, the BirthWorks
philosophy embraces flexibility and informed choice.
“Informed childbirth is
such an important facet of reproductive choice. There are so many
options available that many women don’t know they have,” stated Monica
Brasile.
In her years of
experience working with birthing women and their families, Brasile has
developed a deep commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful
learning environment. She stresses that her classes are open to anyone
preparing for birth, regardless of experience, age, background, or
family arrangement. Those interested in classes will have the option of
either a comprehensive six-week course, or a two-week refresher, and can
enroll at any time during pregnancy.
Anyone wanting more
information or wishing to enroll in the BirthWorks childbirth education
course should call the Emma Goldman Clinic at 337-2111.
