Emma Goldman Clinic
Honors Local Physician
The 32nd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark US Supreme Court
decision making abortion legal throughout the United States, will be
celebrated by the Emma Goldman Clinic on Saturday, January 22, 2005.
Choice Dinner 2005 will take place in the second floor ballroom of the
Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus from 6-9pm.
The keynote speaker is Des Moines Register columnist Rekha Basu. She
will speak about the "power of the pen", encouraging supporters of
reproductive rights to write their elected officials and letters to the
editor as a way of effecting positive change and to protect current
rights.
The Emma Goldman Clinic will honor Dr. Jill Vibhakar with the Golden
Speculum Award. Dr. Vibhakar is a University of Iowa Hospitals and
Clinics Obstetrics and Gynecology Department physician who was a
plaintiff and expert witness in the injunction proceedings against the
abortion ban that was signed by President Bush. The Emma Goldman Clinic
is recognizing Dr. Vibhakar for her bravery and courage in helping stop
the abortion ban
Tickets are $40, $25 for students and those living on limited incomes.
