Nancy Westvig Awarded
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
Nancy Westvig was awarded one of three Outstanding
Volunteer Fundraiser Awards from the Eastern Iowa Chapter of the
Association of Fundraising Professionals. She was nominated by the Emma
Goldman Clinic in Iowa City.
Nancy came to Iowa City 14 years ago and opened up
the paint your own pottery business Fired Up, Iowa City, Inc., with her
husband Michael. Nancy sees philanthropy as part of her successful
business model. She hosts “Emma Day” on the third Friday of each month,
where a percentage of proceeds from the day are gifted to the Emma
Goldman Clinic. The opportunity to hand paint bowls for the Domestic
Violence Intervention Programs Souper Bowl fundraiser in February of
each year is provided by Fired Up. She is involved in area public
libraries and Summer of the Arts.
“We nominated Nancy because of her leadership role
in the community as a business person viewing philanthropy as a best
business practice,” stated Karen Kubby, Executive Director of the Emma
Goldman Clinic. “She provided great leadership as a volunteer
fundraiser to others on our Board of Directors. Nancy provided
encouragement, suggested specific tasks in which Board members could get
involved, and was a great role model. She has lots of passion and
energy for the Emma Goldman Clinic and she shared that with others.”
