Feminist Raffle Highlights Spring Benefit for the Emma
Goldman Clinic
Friends of the Emma Goldman Clinic are invited to attend its Spring
Benefit on Friday, May 18th at the Chait Galleries Downtown, 218 E.
Washington St, across from the Englert Theatre. This fundraising event
is from 5-8pm. This is the same date as the first night of the Friday
Night Concert Series. Parking is available at three nearby parking
ramps all within blocks of the gallery.
"We're excited that once again the Chait Galleries Downtown has welcomed
us into their space for this event," said Karen Kubby, Executive
Director for the clinic. The Emma Goldman Clinic is a non-profit
feminist reproductive health care facility that has been serving the
region for 34 years. Hors d'oeuvres, wine, beer and non-alcoholic
beverages will be complimentary. "We are very happy to have the
community come together for this event. We have had donations from so
many local businesses, artists, and community members. It's great to
know the clinic has this much support."
This event will host a "feminist raffle" featuring 8 different raffle
prizes. Prizes are divided into two categories with different ticket
prices. Tickets can be distributed amongst all the prizes in one
category or concentrated on one item. Items included in the $5 per
ticket, or 5 for $20 category are a 5-hour spa day at Twin Images; a
golf package including four 9-hole rounds at Quail Creek Golf Course in
North Liberty and a gift certificate from Godizilla; earrings created by
Erica Courtney donated by Hands Jewelers; or a large stained glass
window panel from artist Sue Orhon. Items included in the $2 ticket, or
3 for $5 are a Funzone fun pack with toys and action figures; a Crazy
Girl yarn package, including a private consultation with the store
owner; a romantic night package including tickets to Riverside Theatre's
Shakespeare in the Park and a gift certificate to Taste on Melrose; and
a dinner for up to six people at the home of a local public figure who
is good in the kitchen.
Winners need not be present to win and tickets are for sale in advance.
There is a suggested donation of $25 for the Spring Benefit, however the
presence of supporters and a donation of any amount is encouraged. For
more information and to purchase tickets in advance, contact Toni at
(319) 337-2112. By attending the event, the community will be able to
view the art at the gallery and show support for a local reproductive
health care clinic.
