Speak Out: I had An Abortion

The Emma Goldman Clinic presents the documentary, "Speak Out:  I Had an Abortion" on Wednesday, January 18th from 6-8pm in Room A of the Iowa City Public Library.  This film was produced and directed by Gillian Aldrich and Jennifer Baumgardner.

This film features eleven women sharing their experiences of exercising their constitutional right to an abortion.  This community event is presented as part of the University of Iowa's Human Rights Week.  In the spirit of the pro-choice speak outs of the 1970's that led to the US Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, once again making abortion legal in the United States, participants will be invited to share their own reactions and stories following the film.

"It is an irony that now more than ever, we need to share our abortion experiences in order to remove these issues from the political arena so they can be put back into the private realm," state Karen Kubby, Executive Director of the Emma Goldman Clinic.
