Caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV),
as with the other viral infections, there is no cure for hepatitis B. An estimated 150,000
new cases of HBV infections are transmitted sexually each year.
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, fever, yellow skin
(jaundice), dark urine, and liver tenderness
Treatment: Hepatitis B has no cure. A vaccine is available to prevent
infection; it comes in a series of three shots.
If untreated: Hepatitis B can lead to chronic, persistent, active
hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver failure and even death.
