What Are The Risks?

There are various risks associated with any minor surgical procedure, including abortion. Minor complications resulting specifically from an abortion can usually
be remedied by early diagnosis and treatment of the problem. Such
complications occur less than one percent of the time and most commonly
include, but are not limited to , perforation of the uterus, infection, excessive bleeding, incomplete or failed abortion, allergic reactions to medications, or hysterectomy. The risk of permanent damage to the reproductive organs or
death resulting from an abortion is about one incidence in 150,000. (The risk
of death from childbirth is 13 in 100,000)

With a non-surgical abortion, approximately 1 out of 100 women will experience bleeding so heavy that it requires a surgical procedure to stop it. Studies show
this treatment is effective for 92%-95% of women who use it.
